How to Transform Your Body and Get the Shape You Want
Mar 15, 2022
A lot of people start the year wanting to transform their bodies.Fast forward to only a few months in and they have already forgotten what they wanted to do in the first place. The year might even end with them having the same weight or with them even heavier than what they would have wanted to achieve this year. Only a select few would really manage to transform their bodies and get their ideal physical state by the end of the year.A lot of people get discouraged when they don’t see results in an instant. They don’t see the point of going on when they don’t really appreciate the benefits they get from a healthy lifestyle every day. This is why they stop altogether and don’t try to work hard anymore. It’s not even a question of social status, education, age, or gender. It might somehow come into the equation but by the end of the day, it all boils down to doing most of the little things, most of the time. You might forget to do some but at least you are doing most and you are doing it consistently. Over time, these will become the big things that will ultimately transform and give you the physical body of your dreams. It all starts with the proper mindset. Of course, you need to watch what you eat and to break a sweat at the gym or at home. But what keeps you going or what will make you start in the first place is the right mindset. It will keep you going even if your motivation is running low.On the get-go, you need to know why you want to do this in the first place. You might think it sounds cliche but you really need to find your way in order to start and continue until you’ve reached your goal. Be honest with yourself and ask, “Why do I want to lose weight? Why do I want to gain muscle?”Do not be conscious if you think superficial answers come up. It might be because you want to look better than what society dictates. It might be because you want better and more sex. You might want to lure a crush or to show an ex-lover what he or she would miss. It doesn’t really need to sound proper to another person’s ears; what is important is that you want it and it aligns with your values and goals.Over time, those “whys” will evolve and you would most likely have more sustainable goals such as better health and a longer life. But for now, what matters the most is that you are honest with yourself about why you are stepping into this fitness journey.Personally, I wanted to keep up with my friends who are into fitness so I signed up for classes with them. I wanted to look toned when out on the beach but now, I like how exercise makes me feel especially when I’m stressed at work and with other personal things.Once you’ve secured why a clear direction slowly shows up. Lockdown your why first and everything else will follow. The next step is to set specific goals. Do not say you want to lose weight. Set specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-bound goals. So if you want to lose weight, write down how many pounds you want to shed and by what month and date you will do your weigh-in.Run then walk. Focus on your goal at a period in time and go hard at it. Afterward, you can relax and rest before you go on a sprint again to achieve your goal. Your rest time should be your opportunity to evaluate what you have done so far, what works and what doesn’t, and what you should do better.Discipline is one of the top contributing factors to body transformation. This is simply not just being strict with your workout routine; you also have to be disciplined in other things you do in life. Your behavior should be in accordance with your goals. You might miss out on some things so you always have to remind yourself why you are doing this in the first place. But for you to not get discouraged, know that every fitness journey is not perfect. You have to put your eyes on progress and not perfection. Because you are bound to not do this well. There will be workouts that you will skip and unhealthy food that you will eat. You will sleep late; you might get sick in the process too. Don’t stress too much about it being perfect. What is important is that you are better than you were last week or yesterday.Next is to maintain a healthy diet or one that supports your active lifestyle and is aligned with your fitness goals. If possible, record what you eat. You could have an app on your phone like MyFitnessPal that would come in handy when counting calories.Recording what you ate will give you an idea of your eating habits. What do you eat when you’re feeling down? What do you eat when you’re happy? How often do you pick up food? It will make much more sense if you have a clear awareness of how and what you eat. Plus, do not eat when you’re watching television especially if you are trying to lose weight. You should also drop the processed food and go for all-natural options. It will also help if you know you have a goal on how much protein you will eat in a day, the amount of water you should drink, and the vegetable servings included in your every meal. Moreover, cooking your own food will help you practice more mindful eating. Even having your own garden will make you appreciate natural, home-cooked food even more.If you want to eat something that is not in line with your diet, go for it. Just record what you ate and what feelings arise with it so you are aware of your eating patterns. The next step is to exercise regularly and consistently. You need to keep track of your progress so have a record of your training journey. How heavy are the weights you are lifting today? How long did it take you to run 10km in your neighborhood? How many push-ups or pull-ups are you able to do now? Keep a record and make sure you are making some progress. You could exercise even while at home by investing in weights and keeping them in your garage. Install smart storage solutions from FlexiMounts such as overhead storage racks and wall shelves so that your other belongings will be off the floor and you would have space for your gym equipment in the garage.
