I know, we are all looking forward to summer because the season almost equates to spending holidays at the beach or sunny destinations. But, hey, it is still spring, so let us make the most out of this pretty season by making arts and crafts with your kids.
Advantages of Doing Crafts at an Early Age
1. It helps in teaching shapes, colors, recognizing patterns and numbers
By using colored materials such as papers, pencils, pens, and paints, and by cutting the papers into shapes, the kid will be able to recognize its name accordingly due to hands-on experience and repeated actions. The same goes for counting and recognizing patterns. Kids can practice their 1, 2, and 3’s by following the steps in the easy-to-do instructions, and even when counting the materials needed for a certain project.
2. It aids in developing fine motor skills
Grabbing a paintbrush, crayon or pencil helps in developing the muscles and grip. The skill will, later on, be advantageous when they are doing basic tasks like tying the shoelaces, buttoning their coats, writing their first words, and the like.
3. It helps build resilience and patience
Doing crafts takes time and a lot of patience. One needs to follow instructions and it may not give results perfectly right away. Thus, it teaches them that tasks may be hard to succeed on the first try, and it is perfectly fine to make mistakes because that will help them look for solutions instead and not make tantrums.
4. It helps encourage critical thinking
Crafting involves processes. And along the way, the kids will naturally have to think through on the next step to take, as well as the end product.
Easy and Simple Flower-Themed Crafts You Can Enjoy Doing
Cherry Blossom tree out of bubble wrap
What is spring without Cherry Blossoms, right? The tree has been a symbol of spring. And it does not come as a surprise that the pink blooms enliven anyone’s spirit when you see one, especially when the blooms fall as if it is pink rain in the springtime. So, this craft is an ode to the beautiful trees. Here’s what you need:
Bubble wrap
Stock card (color of your choice)
Paintbrush
Paint (brown, pink, and white)
How to:
Paint the basic tree shape using the brown paint. Another option is to let your kid do hand painting instead.
Cut out a small portion of the bubble wrap according to the size that the kid’s hand can handle.
Using the pink and white paint, paint the individual bubbles to serve as the blooms.
Then, turn the bubble wrap over, position it onto the tree, and press down.
Repeat until the tree is covered with the blossoms.
Hyacinth flower out of bottle caps
Another spring staple is the hyacinth flower. Walk through any lush park, and you will find a hyacinth. So, here is a quick craft to commemorate the beauty of the flower. Here’s what you need:
Bottle cap (for easier use, prepare the body of the bottle as well)
Paint (purple)
Cardstock paper (light blue or any color of your choice)
Construction paper (green for the leaves)
Glue
Scissors
How to:
Cut out the green construction paper into stems. Glue them onto the cardstock paper.
Dip the water bottle cap into the purple paint. Then stick them onto the cardstock paper, around the green stems.
Repeat until you form the hyacinth flower.
Leave the paint to dry.
Stick excess green stems onto the sides of the hyacinth.
3D flowers out of tissue paper and cardboard tube
Aside from the two earlier crafts that are two-dimensional, make the activity more interesting by making 3D art. Here’s what you need:
Toilet paper roll
Paint (green)
Paintbrush
Tissue paper squares (various shades of green, can be bought in craft stores)
Tissue paper sheets
Glue
Scissors
Stapler
Construction paper or cardstock
How to:
Paint the cardboard tube with the green paint.
Stick the tissue paper squares using a liquid glue and a paintbrush. This will serve as the stem of the flower.
Let the glue dry completely.
Cut out circles from the tissue paper sheets in groups of two to three different sizes. You can use craft scissors to make the edges look more crafty.
Stack the circles on top of one another.
Pinch the paper together by grabbing the center.
Then, staple them together with the stem.
Pull out the tissue paper petals until you achieve the desired look of the flower.
To add to the overall look, you may glue a circle out of colored construction paper onto the center of the flower.
Work Smart
When working on arts and crafts and with kids at that, make sure that the table that you will be using is sturdy. A wobbly table poses danger to your kid especially since they are at an age where they tend to be clumsy.Utilizing a sturdy workbench not only makes your job easier but it also offers to maintain an organized workstation. We could not stress enough the importance of having a neat workspace. It aids in the faster completion of projects, and most of all, it secures your safety, especially when working with tools that can cause injuries when mishandled. A portable yet durable one takes the cake as your workspace can be moved depending on your needs and the space available in the garage. One such reliable workbench that you can maximize when working is the Fleximounts WB102 Manual Height Adjustable Workbench, which is currently priced at $398.99.Height-adjustable workbenches are heaven-sent. And best of all, you would never need tools to adjust the height of the table legs as is necessary for other workbenches without a crank handle. The WB102 has a solid construction, is made of a 1.5 mm cold-roll steel frame, and holds up to 500 lbs. Its worktop table uses solid rubberwood as a surface and has desktop dimensions of 47.2 inches x 23.6 inches x 1 inch, which offers plenty of space to work on.You can also use it as a garage workbench, home office desktop, or even sewing and crafting table.
