What can be so hard in starting a business?

You have identified a problem in your target audience and you have an idea to solve that problem. You want to offer this solution to earn money, possibly grow an empire, and in the process of doing so, you’ll of course be able to help a lot of people.

People around you are discouraging you from pursuing this path because as they say, “it’s not gonna be an easy one.” You are setting yourself up for failure. And you tell yourself that “no, I’m gonna prove all of them wrong.”

So now that you’ve decided to take on the challenge, what is the next step to make your concept come alive? Whether it be a product or a service, you should go into research and development. Many businesses fail on the onset because they did not do proper research and just jumped into the market. You have to understand your target audience in order to make the product or service that will one, make them pay, and two, help them in their lives that they will be your walking advertisements.

After research and development, you need to look for suppliers. Are you able to give the service yourself? Are you going to create your products on your own? Where will you source your materials or find the right people to work for you? You are now in the supply chain of your business. Whoever you decide to work with will be crucial in determining the success of your business. Handling other people is a tough cookie and you’ll go through many failures before you find the right recipe with the perfect ingredients.

Once the supply chain has been sorted out, you need to think about the quality of what you’ve produced and do some quality assurance. Will you be willing to pay for the product or the service that you will be selling? You have to be proud of your outcome first before anyone believes in it. After quality assurance, you will work out the logistics on how these can be delivered to you. Then, you have to divert your energy in advertising, marketing, and branding. You’ll decide on the price point which will affect how your brand is going to be perceived by your target market. You’ll decide on how people will know about you, your business and the goods that you offer. After these important decisions are made, you would have to execute your strategies in place.

And then, if you have people eager to buy, how will you ship it to them? How will they reach you and get the service that you are offering? There are so many things you have to do once you start a business. It’ll quickly become a 24/7 commitment on your part and you need to give your 100% to it for it to become a success. And if you fail, you need to have the mental fortitude to get up and keep going. Failure is an important component of your journey because that’s where you’ll learn and that’s when you grow.

But then, when you’re just starting your business, of course, you don’t have that big of a capital yet. Unless you’re born out of money, you would need to settle for a small office first or keep your production to a minimum. One choice that you have is to turn your garage into your business headquarters. How?

Declutter it first. Take out everything in your garage, clean the ceiling down to the floor, and make necessary repairs of cracks, holes, and chipping paint. Sell or donate the items that you don’t need anymore and organize what will be left. This is the time that you’ll need to install smart storage solutions such as overhead storage racks and wall shelves in order to maximize the storing capacity of your garage’s ceiling and walls. The floor will be free for you to use for inventory, group meetings, idea conception, product workshop etc.
