Why You Should Consider Ceiling Storage in Your Garage
October 28, 2021

It’s not common to walk to a room with the ceiling used as storage space. After all, it’s where the light fixtures are placed and the bigger the distance of the ceiling from the floor, the wider and brighter a space would look like. So even though the ceiling space is unused and vacant, it’s no wonder that it’s kept minimal and free from personal items.
This design concept does not apply, however, to rooms that function as a storage areas. In the garage, for instance, any vacant space you can find can be utilized for storing heavy-duty items or even light ones. Still, a lot of people, homeowners, don’t use their garage’s ceiling for storage. We reckon it’s because most of them think that ceiling storage is impractical. Garages in old homes have low ceilings that homeowners may think it’s not possible to use the overhead space for storage---which is not true. Look at the opportunity cost in this situation. Since you’re storing things high up in the garage, your floor would be freed of clutter and there will be more space for your vehicle to park and for you to move around. Your garage may function as a home gym or a workshop for your nifty projects when the car is not around or when it’s daylight and you can temporarily park it in your driveway.
Another reason why ceiling storage does not excite people is that most of us are not familiar with ceiling storage just yet. They don’t know that there are ceiling storage options available in the market, especially if they’re not planning to fix their garage and are not actively looking for storage solutions. Most people also don’t visit their neighbors’ garages or would rarely do just to see what’s on-trend or what other storage options are out there in their garages.
But gone are the days that the garage’s ceiling is just used for lumber or ski equipment. In the market today, there are overhead racks for heavy-duty items, lift racks for items that are moved around often, storage hoist systems, tracks mounted on the ceiling that have storage bins, storage hooks, and hangers. From simple to complicated and racks to hooks, no homeowner would run out of ceiling storage options with a myriad available online.
What do we store in the garage anyway? Aside from power tools and handyman equipment, we also go to the garage to secure items we use occasionally. These will be perfect to store inside overhead storage since we don’t need to have easy access to them every single day. These items include seasonal tires, out-of-season outdoor chairs and tables, sporting equipment, outdoor arsenal, storage bins, Christmas decorations, camping gear, and landscaping tools. Even cars can be lifted above especially if you have two cars and don’t have additional floor space for your extra vehicle.
A quick scan on the FlexiMounts shopping site would lead you to a category for Overhead Garage Storage Racks. Currently, it has five options with prices ranging from $129.99 to $259.99. We discuss three of the options available below:
