While it is said too many times before, your memory is the best photography equipment you can own. And the best moments can only be captured by your memory. But sometimes, your memories can fail you. You may tend to forget some details, and that is where tangible photography equipment comes in. The great invention of cameras has helped us produce visuals that shape our lives and the world. And on August 19, we celebrate World Photography Day. The event originated from the creation of the photographic process, Daguerreotype, invented by Frenchmen Louis Daguerre and Nicephore Niepce in 1837. Two years later, on August 19, the French government purchased the patent and announced the invention as a gift free to the world. The technology has been the foundation of developments in the photographic industry. And as they say, the rest is history. For photographers out there, if you have been thinking long and hard if it is the right time to set up your own photography studio, then the upcoming World Photography Day is the universe’s way of telling you to do it!

From the lighting to the backdrop to the props. All you need for a shoot is within steps. And you don’t need to scurry away to find restrooms when you need one. Having your own photography studio also means money-saving in the long run. You cut down expenses on renting photography studios, money spent on going to photography locations and transporting equipment, and rental fees for camera and light equipment. You also do not need to transport, carry and set up your heavy photography equipment every time you have a shoot because in your own photography studio, all you need are stationed there. Time spent in travelling can be used in more productive activities like editing previous shoots, contacting clients, or even resting. Having a permanent and official address to your photography business adds to the legitimacy. And this goes without saying that clients will trust their photography needs to you more.

Setting up your own photography studio

The most important thing to consider is space. Which part of your house can accommodate your photography equipment, target customers and kind of photography that you will do? The studio need not be too spacious. Your garage space can be the perfect location for your own studio. If you will be doing a lot of portraits, imagine how many can you accommodate all at once. And also the focal distance of the camera lens that you will be using. Let’s say you will be using a 50mm lens and a full-frame camera most of the time, then allot at least 10 feet between you and your subject. There needs to be comfortable head room in your frame.
